Open University Library Video

Story of the shoot 16th April 2014

We were delighted when we became registered suppliers to the Open University. Our first commission was a promotional video for the university’s library, aimed at helping post-graduate students understand what the library staff can do to assist them.

At our first meeting, the library staff had indicated that they wanted a “Sherlock” look to the video, so we experimented with putting lots of text on screen to show that the librarians are there to help students get through the wealth of information available to find the most useful sources for their projects.

Open University Shoot

The shoot took place at the Open University campus in Milton Keynes, with library staff standing in as our ‘students’ and of course as usual we wrote dogs into the script. One of the librarians had shown me a photo of her two miniature schnauzers – one of which was just a puppy, which made doing the same shot over and over again rather difficult, as the puppy was all over the place – but always worth it to have dogs in the video!

The library staff were really pleased with the way it turned out, and hopefully they now have something a bit different to show students what they can offer, and encourage them to come forward for advice and help when they’re doing their research.

The Open University campus is full of fantastic buildings and gardens, so hopefully there’ll be lots more opportunities to film there, as we’ve only just got started.
